Sanctuary scheme
The purpose of the sanctuary scheme is to enable victims of domestic abuse and their children to remain safely in their own homes when the perpetrator of the abuse does not live at or have any legal rights to occupy the family home. This means that victims and their children do not have to disrupt family life by fleeing to another area. The sanctuary scheme is free to victims. It is available to both owner occupiers and tenants who have the right to make adjustments to their homes.
The outreach service is the referring agency for anyone wanting to access the scheme. A crime reduction adviser will then contact victims to arrange a convenient time to visit the home with a surveyor to assess what adaptations may be made to keep them safe. Surrey Fire Service may also attend to give advice on fire safety matters. It is anticipated that any sanctuary scheme works will be completed within one month of the outreach referral.
